So I’m reading about the Scottish Government’s Decision about Equal Marriage
In case you’re not aware, the Scottish Government has said it will be bringing forward legislation to allow equal marriage in Scotland, meaning of course that same sex couples will have the legal right to get married, and that in couples where one partner transitions, they would no longer have to get a divorce, then rejoin in a civil partnership.
It’s special because they aren’t only talking about civil marriage, they want the legislation to allow same sex religious and humanist marriages in Scotland if the religious or humanist institution will allow it. Basically it means, if you are in a same sex relationship, and are religious or humanist, you can have a religious or humanist ceremony in scotland to get married, as long as your sect approves of your relationship and marriage.
Reading the article I’m reading on it makes me so so happy, I can feel tears of joy i nmy eyes because this is huge to me. It means that when legislation is brought through, I can actually get married to Lee, not get civil partnershipped, and I can do it in my home country, one of the most beautiful places in the UK, I can cement my love for Lee and profess my commitment to him surrounded by the people I love in my home country, where I have always wanted to do this.
I can’t really express how happy it makes me that the Scottish Government is putting forth legislation to allow me to express my love and commitment in the same way as a heterosexual couple can.
